ROLE: School Finance Assistant

LOCATION: Newcastle

HOURS: Full time 9-5 contract role for 3 months

PAY: £100 PAYE/ £120 Umbrella per day

Job Role: Finance Assistant

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Finance Assistant to join a Secondary School based in Newcastle. You'll play a key role in helping keep things organized, efficient, and accurate for the schools within the trust.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Process purchase invoices with a focus on accuracy and correct coding

  • Raising invoices

  • Help manage the system for purchasing goods and services

  • Keep cash book entries up to date and prepare data for journal entries

  • Assist with managing the school’s cash office system, including generating and monitoring income reports (think catering, trips, fundraising, etc.)

  • Handle general office duties like monitoring incoming mail and emails, responding to inquiries in a timely and efficient manner

  • Offer finance support and advice to schools within the Trust

Your Day-to-Day Tasks:

  • Purchase Ledger: Process purchase orders, match, code, and process invoices, raise queries, and reconcile supplier statements

  • Sales Ledger: Create invoices, send out statements, handle credit control, and sort out any invoice issues

  • Procurement: Help manage suppliers, assist with purchase orders and inquiries, analyze contracts and supplier info, follow up on deliveries, and maintain purchase orders in the finance system

  • Prepare and input journal data for income and expenditure

  • Administer the school’s cash office system, generate income reports, and prepare cash book entries

What We’re Looking For:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A relevant accounting qualification (AAT Level 2 or equivalent)

  • Experience of working within the education sector is desirable, but not essential

  • Strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to handle a busy workload independently

  • A keen eye for detail and solid analytical skills

  • Strong numerical skills and a high level of accuracy

  • Good people skills, especially when working with internal teams
